Saving The American Farmer

A documentary series about the families fighting to preserve the future of American agriculture.

Individual farms. Individual families. Individual battles. One shared mission: make sure the family farm has a future.

The Vision

This Isn't One Story.

It's Sixteen.

Saving The American Farmer is designed as a collection of intimate documentary films centered around individual farm families across the country.

Instead of trying to explain the challenges facing American agriculture through one broad film, we will tell those challenges through the people actually living them.

Each episode gives a family enough time to tell their story honestly — the operation they've built, the decisions they've made, the challenges they're facing, and what is ultimately at stake.

Together, those individual stories begin to tell something much larger. The story of the American family farm.

Our Recommendation

How We Recommend Running This.

Legacy Farmer asked for pricing to produce the full series, and for a 90-day trial period before committing to all of it. Our recommendation covers both: start with a Pilot Week, and build every episode on a two-day minimum shoot.

Recommendation 01

Start With A Pilot Week.

Rather than committing to sixteen families up front, 6 Media and Legacy Farmer produce two families — two full episodes — inside one production week. It is a real-world test of how the two teams work together before the larger series locks in.

  1. 01

    Pilot Week

6 Media and Legacy Farmer select two farm families in one region and shoot them back to back in a single production week.

  2. 02

    Two Finished Episodes

Both families are fully produced — long-form documentary episodes plus the agreed short-form package — so the pilot reflects the real deliverable, not a test reel.

  3. 03

    Review Together

Legacy Farmer reviews the footage, the edits, the workflow, and how the two teams actually work side by side in the field.

  4. 04

    Continue Or Opt Out

Inside the 90-day window Legacy Farmer either greenlights the remaining families or walks away with two finished episodes and the raw footage.

The Pilot Week gives Legacy Farmer a clean opt-out inside the 90-day window — and two finished episodes either way.

Recommendation 02

Two Shoot Days Per Family. Minimum.

Legacy Farmer originally planned one shoot day per family. After lengthy discussions internally and with the production team, we do not believe one day produces the depth of evergreen content this series is meant to create.

One Day Isn't Enough Time

A single day forces us to shoot the operation and the family at the same pace. Interviews get rushed, and the quiet moments that carry these stories never happen.

Travel Eats The Schedule

Back-to-back single days mean wrapping, packing, driving to the next farm, and shooting cold — no scout, no layout, no prep with the family.

Two Days Builds Trust

Day one earns the family's comfort and maps the operation. Day two is when the honest, unguarded material shows up on camera.

Built To Be Evergreen

This footage should serve Legacy Farmer for years. Two days per family produces a deep enough library to keep pulling from long after the episode airs.

Originally Discussed

1 Day

Per family — not enough time to travel, prep, and tell the story well.

6 Media Recommends

2 Days

Minimum per family — the baseline every episode in this proposal is priced on.

Every episode price in this proposal is built on the two-day production model. The breakdown below details exactly what each episode includes and what it costs.

What Is An Episode?

Episode Breakdown

At the core of this project are the episodes — each one built around a single farm family. Before we get into pricing and scope, it's important to define exactly what an episode is, what it includes, and how it will be delivered.

Pre-Production Collaboration

6 Media joins pre-production calls for every episode to review the shot list, interview questions, and creative direction. We come prepared to offer insight, flag opportunities, and make sure the production plan is aligned before we ever show up on the farm.

Two Days On Location

One episode is built from two full days of production with a single farm family. This gives time to capture the operation, the interviews, and the unguarded moments that make each story distinct.

One Full-Length Documentary

Each episode delivers one polished documentary film running 12–15 minutes. 6 Media handles the full edit, sound design, color grade, and final delivery.

10–15 Associated Shorts

Every episode generates a library of short-form content covering topics, moments, and insights discovered during the two-day shoot. The exact count depends on what each family reveals.

6M

6 Media Recommendation

Legacy Farmer should edit the associated shorts. The quantity varies from episode to episode, and combining that lift with the full-length edit creates significant back-and-forth. Having Legacy Farmer handle shorts directly keeps the workflow fast, flexible, and aligned with their publishing cadence. To keep everything visually consistent, 6 Media will share the color grade, LUTs, and treatment specs used on the long-form episode so Legacy Farmer's short-form edits match the documentary look.

What Is A Quarterly Thematic Cut?

Quarterly Thematic Cut

In addition to the individual farm-family episodes, the project includes four quarterly thematic films. These cuts pull from footage already captured during episode production and weave together multiple families around a shared theme or topic.

Four Per Year

One quarterly thematic cut is released every quarter, for a total of four films across the project year.

Pulled From Existing Footage

No additional filming is required. Each cut is assembled from interviews, moments, and footage already captured during the farm-family episodes.

Built Around A Theme

Every quarterly cut focuses on a specific theme or topic that surfaced during production — connecting stories that share a common thread.

Multiple Families. One Story.

By weaving together several farm families, each thematic cut tells a larger story while keeping the people and their experiences at the center.

Footage Ownership + Usage

The Story Doesn't Disappear When The Project Ends.

Legacy Farmer Receives The Raw Footage.

All raw footage captured for the project will be shared with Legacy Farmer. Legacy Farmer may retain and use the provided footage for future content and storytelling initiatives as they choose. This creates an increasingly valuable library of original farm-family footage as Saving The American Farmer grows.

The Long-Term Vision

Not A Project.

A Media Partnership.

Saving The American Farmer may begin with a defined number of episodes, but the opportunity is much larger.

As Legacy Farmer continues identifying families, uncovering stories, responding to industry issues, and expanding the series, 6 Media can provide a consistent production engine behind that growth.

Instead of rebuilding a production team, creative language, visual style, and workflow for every new project, we build that infrastructure together once — and continue improving it.
